Estonia’s national airline Nordica delivered 613,000 passengers to their destinations in 2017, a rise of more than 60% on the previous year, solidifying the airline’s position as market leader for flights operating out of Tallinn. Nordica’s fleet also increased by 10 aircraft during the year.

2017 was an intense but successful year of growth for the national carrier. Passenger numbers rose strongly, eventually exceeding the same figures for 2016 by 63%. The airline’s fleet was boosted with a further 10 aircraft throughout the year, allowing it to operate with 16 planes by the end of the year. This growth was needed to ensure a stable revenue base for the company for the coming years.

Jaan Tamm, the Chairman of the Management Board of Nordica, remarked that 2017 was a busy year that passed in a flash. “We achieved more throughout the year than we’d planned to, for which we first and foremost need to thank our passengers for their trust and our partners for working with us,” he said. “We’ve now become the most preferred airline among Estonian travellers, but this year we want to focus our attention on taking our services further and improving their quality.” The airline has announced that it will end its second financial year in the black.

2017 saw 98% of Nordica flights operated, more than 82% of them within 15 minutes of their scheduled departure and arrival times. The company is not planning the same growth in 2018, but instead will be concentrating on boosting quality. Three new destinations are being added to the airline’s network of routes this year: flights to the biggest hub in Scandinavia, Copenhagen, will commence on 27 April; and there will be two new summer resorts for passengers to explore, with flights to Ohrid in Macedonia and Constanta in Romania starting on 1 and 16 June, respectively.
