This city full of Scandinavian charm on the eastern coast of Zealand was founded as a Viking fishing village in the tenth century. It has been the Danish capital for more than 600 years and today has a population of more than one and a half million. Visitors to Copenhagen delight in its Nordic architecture and the lively crowds that throng its streets and the countless bars, restaurants and cafés.

In the city centre and nearby districts, nightlife goes on till morning. During the day you can visit the National Gallery and see works by Rembrandt, Rubens, Matisse, Picasso, Braque, Munch, among others, or immerse yourself in Danish history in the National Museum, head out to Rosenborg Castle, a fine example of Danish Renaissance architecture, or visit the Tivoli amusement park. There are many other sights to see as well.

Not least, the Carlsberg brewery, where several world-famous beers are brewed. Copenhagen is also a great destination for music lovers and the summer jazz festival, the biggest of the many events held in the city, offers music of many different varieties.
