Flights to Constanta
Constanta – a yet-undiscovered paradise on the shores of the Black Sea
With an ancient history, golden sands and more than 300 sunny days a year, Constanta is a “stealth” summer paradise that is worth a visit for anyone who enjoys nature, loves warm weather and is ready for surprises. It’s an exhilarating place for culture vulture vacationers as well as for young and adventurous travellers.
With white-sand Black Sea beaches, enchanting views and clear water, Constanta is a mecca for resorts. The best-known resort in the area is Mamaia, famous for its wide strand, many pubs and nightclubs.
Find the right time to go and plan a holiday at a time when hotels are most affordable – summer in Constanta starts in spring and keeps on going even when it’s already autumn in Estonia.
Kids & families
The resort is also a good destination for families with children. Arrivals to Mamaia are first welcomed by AquaMagic Water Park, which has plenty of day-long fun for visitors of all ages. The Constanta Aquarium features close to 60 different aquatic species of animals from the Black Sea and Danube delta.
Culture and architecture
The best time to visit Constanta is summer, when the days are long – it’s light outside for 11 hours and concerts or music festivals are held nearly every evening on the beach. Plan your trip for the time of the Sunwaves Festival or the Neversea electronic music festival.
A city like a mosaic
As Romania has seen many different regimes, the city’s architecture tells every visitor its colourful story. Start your walk from Ovidiu, the town hall square, where the route will take you directly to the port promenade. Take a rest stop at one of the many cafés and restaurants there and visit the Constanta Casino on your way – its majestic Art Nouveau and Art Deco details is a sight unto itself. The building was completed in 1910 and today is one of the most beautiful abandoned places in Europe.
Architectural discoveries in Constanta aren’t limited to the Casino. Go and admire the House with Lions, or the Mahmudiye Mosque built by Romania’s first king, Carol I. Then there’s St. Mina Orthodox Church – the biggest wooden church in the country and an authentic example of Romania’s local style.
There are endless discoveries to be made within a radius of several hours
The climate, with long and warm autumns and mild winds off the sea, is ideal for producing Chardonnay and Pinot Gris wines. Murfatlar winery, traditional cuisine of the Dobrogea region and local wines make the holiday here truly enjoyable.
Those behind the wheel should know that 470 km to the northwest is the legendary and mysterious Transylvania, home of the notorious Count Dracula. Driving from Constanta along the coast to the south will take reach another area resort right before the Bulgarian border. This is Vama Veche, often the site of rock concerts. Those up for a longer road trip and a bit of sun should be sure to drive to one of Bulgaria’s most beautiful and popular resorts, Varna, which is just 158 km from Constanta.
Visit the home of Count Dracula, the castle in Transylvania – affordable car hire lets you discover places outside of Constanta.
Food, drink and nightlife
Constanta is a perfect destination for holiday travel, because it gives you that needed dose of sea air and sun-bleached hair, while remaining quite affordable. Dinner – a main course and drink – can be had for 30 Romanian leu (1 euro is about 4.6 leu). That’s less than 10 euros. In some fancier places, you might spend 50 leu. It’s still good value, though, and it certainly is worth popping into any place that is to your liking. A pleasant time is guaranteed at restaurants like Bueno, La Premier or InLarg.
A taste of the exotic – for an affordable price
The carefree holiday atmosphere starts in the morning when the beach bars open up shop and the characteristic strains of this southern clime start caressing your ears. Smooth cocktails, live music and beautiful nature will make you feel as if you are in the middle of a tropical paradise. For more active holidayers, there are a number of water sport opportunities at the beach, adding a dose of adrenaline to your holiday. The heart of Mamaia wakes in the morning and keeps on rocking in the evening. Mornings arrive to the tune of dancing on the sands.
